Mission, Vision, and What We Do:
The Mission: To provide educational services to individuals and groups which promote self-empowerment to grow, source, cook, and preserve nutritious foods while leading healthy and sustainable lifestyles.
The Vision: To help every person achieve a basic understanding of the human lifecycle and the lifecycle of food, while navigating a world of misinformation.
The concept of “Farm to Body” came after years of studying the “Slow Foods” or “Farm to Table Movement.” At some point an epiphany occurred. I realized that food does not stop at the table, rather it ends up inside the body. In order to complete the circle, I decided to coin the term “Farm to Body.” The usage of the word “Wellness” came later, while I was attempting to pass the RD Exam. If you would like to better yourself and grow your mind, come learn with us!
What We Do
Personalized & Sustainable Lifestyle Education: Every person is different. From their wants and needs, to their learning type. Here at Farm to Body Wellness, we work with each individual and devise a plan that is client-centered. Our goal is to create a life changing and sustainable program.
The first step is learning about you. We will need to collect a small amount of background information, to determine what you know, and understand your goals. A common phrase I use is “finding the ground beneath me.” Essentially, before I can make improvements to myself, I must know where I stand at this moment in time. With a world full of distractions it is more difficult today than ever before. Below are the target areas which we focus on:
Nutrition: This is possibly one of the most controversial topics we face today. Everyone has an opinion. It is important to differentiate opinions with science. The basis of nutrition is a combination of biology and biochemistry. Without causing confusion, we will dive into your thought process and work together to avoid letting you fall into FAD diets and FAD cultures without understanding how it really affects the body. We will work with you and give you ideas and direction to find and forge your own path in a slow, sustainable manner. You can make lifestyle changes that you are comfortable with and not rushed into. We focus on S.M.A.R.T. Goals, which lead to lifelong outcomes.
Physical Fitness: The missing key to most people’s success. Either an individual is not active at all or they might be doing the wrong type of exercise. Fit influencers are showing off their bodies and convincing the public that certain exercises got them into their current bodies, but this is almost certainly untrue. If you need a plan, we can start there. If you want one-on-one sessions, that is also an option. Whatever it is that you need in order to succeed is our priority.
Food Systems: Understanding where food begins, as many different raw products, and how it arrives in an edible form is a confusing issue today. We are here to guide each client to learn where all food begins, and to determine: the truth, the exaggerated, and in some cases what is completely false. Affordable food should not only be a basic human right, but understanding where food comes from should be too. By gaining the skills of deductive reasoning to differentiate the constantly increasing amounts of information that is surrounding our food system, you too can learn to make informative decisions to protect yourself from misinformation, and nourish your body.
Cooking “Culinary School” at Home: Cooking food from scratch and understanding the basics of food production can be overwhelming. However, this does not mean that you need to go to a fancy Culinary School in order to excel. Most of the “healthy” foods are cooked through simple techniques. If you are in need of learning the basics, that is a part of this program. Home Economics may have been removed from the public school system, but these skills are now readily available at your request. Learning how to prepare food for yourself or enhancing what you already know, may be the building block that is missing.

“Education you can easily use to incorporate into your daily life! As well as helping to guide you towards a more sustainable outlook on food, from its earliest stage to your body.” – Derek
